By performing asanas, yoga can contribute to more body awareness, it helps you to focus better and relax your body. In addition, you will acquire more elasticity in the muscles and it improves the blood circulation. The yoga asanas are performed in order to cleanse the body of impurities. The purpose of asana is to provide a free flow of energy to create and to help focus our attention doing this. The goal of yoga is not the posture itself, but to be fully aware in the action and to merge into this. It does not matter how flexible you are, the point is that you’re working with your body and that you have an observing attitude while performing the postures. I’ll coach you with this during class. During the performance of asanas you turn inside. The pace of asanas is not too high to keep calm. During class special breathing techniques are taught that you can apply in daily life. All the asanas have a purpose and focus on particular organs that are affected this way. The postures create rhythmic changes in blood flow to body parts, causing the organs to perform their functions better. This effect is enhanced by direct massage of the organs.
